Photo contest “Cigarras de Portugal” opens applications

6 September, 2021

Applications for the photo contest “Cigarras de Portugal” are open until 31 August. The main objetive is to make a survey of the places where the 13 species of cicadas known in Portugal live. Each participant may submit up to three photographs of 11 species that inhabit Portugal (excluding only the “cegarrega” and the “cigarra-comum-do-sul”, the best-known species).

The photos in the contest must have been taken on Portuguese territory during spring/summer 2021. In a first stage, 10 finalist photographs will be selected by a jury, formed by a team of researchers, based on criteria of aesthetic quality and scientific interest. From this set of finalist photographs, the winners will be chosen by the public through online voting. The contest will award the three winners with vouchers granted by the sponsors of the competition.
