Luís Ferreira is the new rector of the University of Lisbon

Luís Manuel dos Anjos Ferreira was elected new rector of the University of Lisbon, thus replacing António Cruz Serra, who held the position between 2013 and 2021. The election was the result of the vote of the General Council, which took place on 6 September, and resulted in 21 favourable votes and 11 null votes.

With a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Luís Manuel dos Anjos Ferreira has been a Full Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine since 2000, and has been vice-rector of the UL since 2015.

According to information released on the University’s official website, Luís Ferreira had also been vice-rector (2007-2011) and pro-rector (1999-2001) at the Technical University of Lisbon.

This time he ran for the position with António Manuel Pedro Afonso, Full Professor at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon (ISEG), who did not obtain any votes.
